Viswanathan polled 57,356 votes, winning by a margin of 2,724 votes, as per counting trends. TVK candidate A. Maduraiveeran came very close with 56,744 votes. All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) candidate P. Periyapullan (a) Selvam finished third with a significant gap.

The TVK party, led by actor Vijay, emerged as a formidable force in Tamil Nadu, pushing traditional parties like DMK and AIADMK to the margins.
