Congress reprimands Revanth Reddy over Hitler remark

The Congress party has reprimanded Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for his controversial remark citing Adolf Hitler as an inspiration, stating that it is out of line with the party's ethos and ideology. The party has also urged the CM to exercise caution in his future comments.

Party's Disapproval

When questioned about the Telangana CM's statement, AICC general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal told TOI: "It is not at all acceptable." It has been learned that the party's disapproval has been conveyed to Reddy, and he has been instructed to maintain discipline regarding his public statements going forward.

Controversy Over HYDRAA

The Congress censure followed the uproar triggered by Reddy's assertion that Hitler was the inspiration behind the formation of the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA), the state's anti-encroachment task force. "HYDRAA was Adolf Hitler's favourite word. His core team was named Hydra," Reddy said at an event.

Political Reactions

Political parties such as the CPM and BRS heavily criticized Reddy for invoking Hitler, the Nazi leader infamous for his dictatorial regime and the Holocaust. The CPM seized upon Reddy's remarks to draw parallels between the Congress and the BJP. In a post on X, CPM general secretary MA Baby stated, "...undoubtedly echoing the ideological fascinations of the Sangh Parivar." Similarly, CPML's Dipankar Bhattacharya remarked on X, "Invocation of Hitler as an icon of governance by a Congress CM in a state like Telangana is no less worrying."

Baby's attack came after the Left and Congress clashed during a meeting of opposition parties on Monday.
