Congress Leader Condemns On-Stage Altercation at UDF Yatra Event

Senior Congress leader Mullappally Ramachandran has expressed strong disapproval regarding the on-stage scuffle that occurred during the reception for the UDF's Puthu Yuga Yatra in Kuttiady, Kozhikode district. Ramachandran emphasized that such public confrontations should have been entirely avoided, particularly in a political setting.

Ramachandran Criticizes MP Shafi Parambil's Reaction

In his remarks, Ramachandran specifically addressed the actions of Vadakara MP Shafi Parambil, stating that the parliamentarian should not have allowed himself to become provoked in such a public forum. "That sort of pushing and jostling should not have happened on such a stage. Shafi is the MP of that constituency, and he would have wanted to address his constituents. He may have felt that he was denied an opportunity. He should not have got provoked at a function like that," Ramachandran asserted.

The senior Congress leader further explained that the sequence of events likely contributed to the incident. According to Ramachandran, the person presiding over the function first invited Kozhikode MP M K Raghavan to speak instead of Vadakara MP Shafi Parambil. Subsequently, former Kuttiady MLA Parakkal Abdullah was called upon, which could have been perceived as a slight against Shafi, potentially triggering his reaction.

Background of the Incident

The altercation took place on February 11 during the reception accorded to the United Democratic Front's Puthu Yuga Yatra, which is being led by opposition leader V D Satheesan. Reports indicate that Shafi Parambil expressed his displeasure allegedly over the delay in inviting him to address the gathering, leading to the on-stage confrontation.

Ramachandran also commented on the media coverage of the incident, suggesting that there was no need for the media to exaggerate or blow the situation out of proportion. He maintained that while the incident was unfortunate, it should be viewed in context without unnecessary sensationalism.

The Puthu Yuga Yatra represents a significant political campaign for the UDF in Kerala, aimed at connecting with constituents and addressing key issues. This incident has drawn attention to internal dynamics within the coalition, highlighting the importance of protocol and communication during public events.

Political observers note that such public disagreements, while not uncommon in Kerala's vibrant political landscape, can impact party unity and public perception. Ramachandran's comments reflect a concern for maintaining decorum and preventing similar incidents in the future, as the UDF continues its outreach efforts across the state.
