Congress Slams Amit Shah's Uttarakhand Visit as 'Formality', Cites Unaddressed Issues
Congress Criticizes Amit Shah's Visit as Mere Formality in Uttarakhand

Congress Leader Condemns Amit Shah's Uttarakhand Visit as Superficial

In a sharp rebuke, Congress state president Ganesh Godiyal on Saturday lambasted the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Uttarakhand, dismissing it as a "mere formality" that failed to tackle pressing concerns in the state. Godiyal asserted that the visit overlooked critical issues such as corruption, deteriorating law and order, and the unresolved Rishikesh resort murder case.

Key Allegations and Unanswered Questions

Raising ten pointed questions, Godiyal highlighted that while Shah praised the BJP government for completing four years in office, he conspicuously avoided mentioning the Rishikesh resort murder case or providing updates on the CBI probe. "People of Uttarakhand are demanding transparency about the VIP involved, but the facts remain shrouded in secrecy," Godiyal stated, noting that there have been no significant developments since the case was transferred to the CBI months ago.

He further accused the ruling party of being complicit in a recruitment paper leak and cited rising corruption and crime rates as major failures of the state administration. With the BJP in power at both the central and state levels, Godiyal urged leaders to address fundamental problems like migration from hill areas and escalating unemployment.

Controversy Over Uniform Civil Code and Women's Safety Concerns

Godiyal also questioned the provisions of Uttarakhand's proposed Uniform Civil Code, specifically asking how laws regulating live-in couples would benefit residents. In a related development, state women's Congress president Jyoti Rautela attempted to march to Haridwar to submit a memorandum to Shah but was halted by police. Rautela emphasized that women's safety and the law and order situation in Uttarakhand are grave issues that require immediate attention.

The criticism underscores growing political tensions in Uttarakhand, with the Congress positioning itself as a vocal opposition against what it perceives as governmental neglect and evasion of accountability.
