Congress Accuses BJP of Violating BNSS Section 163 Over Nitin Nabin's Goa Procession
Congress Alleges BJP Violated BNSS in Goa Procession for Nitin Nabin

Congress Levels Serious Allegations Against BJP Over BNSS Violation in Goa

The political atmosphere in Goa heated up on Friday as the Congress party launched a sharp accusation against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The opposition alleged that the BJP blatantly violated Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which strictly prohibits public gatherings under certain conditions. This accusation stems from a procession organised by the BJP in Panaji to welcome its national president, Nitin Nabin, to the coastal state.

Background of Prohibitory Orders and the Chimbel Protest

The controversy unfolded against the backdrop of prohibitory orders imposed by authorities. These orders were specifically enacted due to a planned protest by Chimbel villagers, who have been vocally opposing the proposed Unity Mall project in their area. Following the issuance of the order, the villagers demonstrated resilience by relocating their protest to Old Goa, ensuring their voices were heard despite the restrictions.

Congress Demands Clarification and Criticises Selective Enforcement

In response to the BJP's procession, opposition leaders from the Congress party have demanded immediate clarification from the government. They have raised serious concerns about what they describe as selective enforcement of the law, suggesting that the ruling party is being afforded preferential treatment while others face strict adherence to regulations.

Amit Patkar, the state Congress president, did not mince words in his criticism. He labelled the BJP's actions as dictatorial and called for decisive action. Patkar urged the North Goa collector to arrest both Nitin Nabin and the state BJP president, Damodar Naik, for their alleged violation of the BNSS provisions.

This incident has sparked a broader debate on governance and legal impartiality in Goa, with political observers closely watching how authorities will address these allegations. The Congress's stance underscores a growing tension between the ruling and opposition parties, potentially influencing public perception ahead of future electoral engagements.
