Major Bus Accident Injures Dozens of Engineering Students
A serious road accident involving a private engineering college bus left at least 32 students injured on Friday. The incident occurred in the Mondikunta area of Ashwapuram mandal, located in Telangana's Bhadradri Kothagudem district. Five of the injured students sustained grievous injuries, according to initial reports from the scene.
Chaotic Scene and Immediate Rescue Efforts
The bus, belonging to KLR Engineering College in Manuguru, was carrying approximately 60 students. It was en route to Palvancha when the driver reportedly lost control. The vehicle veered off the road and overturned into fields within a forested area at Mondikunta.
Local villagers from a nearby settlement were the first responders, rushing to help the trapped students out of the damaged bus. Shortly after, paramedics from a 108 ambulance service arrived at the spot. They provided crucial first aid before beginning the process of hospitalisation.
Medical Response and Condition of the Injured
Of the total 32 injured, 24 students received first aid treatment. The five most seriously hurt were transported to the government area hospital in Bhadrachalam for urgent care. Doctors at the hospital reported that one girl student suffered critical injuries.
Her condition required immediate brain and chest CT scans. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was later shifted to a private hospital to access more specialised medical attention. The condition of the other injured students is being closely monitored.
Contradictory Accounts of the Accident's Cause
Initial reports from the accident site suggest that the bus was speeding when the mishap occurred. However, authorities from KLR Engineering College presented a different version of events. They stated that the accident took place because the bus driver attempted to avoid a collision with an oncoming two-wheeler, leading to a loss of control.
Local police have launched an investigation to determine the exact sequence of events and the primary cause of this distressing accident. The focus is on driver error, vehicle speed, and road conditions as potential contributing factors.
