The Coimbatore district police have taken decisive action by arresting 32 individuals identified as habitual offenders in the lead-up to the assembly election. This operation is a key component of intensive precautionary measures aimed at maintaining law and order and fostering a peaceful electoral environment across the district.

Police Directive and Coordinated Checks

District Superintendent of Police Dr. K. Karthikeyan issued directives for special checks to track habitual offenders and history-sheeters involved in criminal activities. Acting on these orders, all sub-divisional police officers conducted coordinated checks throughout the district this week, resulting in the arrests.

Legal Actions and Charges

Legal proceedings have been initiated against the arrested individuals, with cases registered under various sections of the law. Notably, seven cases were filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Of the 32 arrested, 22 people have been remanded in judicial custody, while 10 habitual offenders have been bound over under Section 110 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) to prevent further criminal engagement.
