Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has endorsed the demand for the final notification to bifurcate the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation. Leaders of the Dharwad Separate Corporation Struggle Committee expressed confidence that the proposed Dharwad Mahanagar Palike could formally come into existence within a fortnight.
The Chief Minister's support marks a significant step toward the long-pending demand for a separate municipal corporation for Dharwad. The committee leaders met Shivakumar and presented their case, highlighting the need for administrative efficiency and focused development for Dharwad city.
Speaking after the meeting, committee members said they were optimistic about the timeline. 'We are confident that the final notification will be issued soon, and Dharwad Mahanagar Palike will become a reality within 15 days,' a senior leader stated.
The bifurcation of the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation has been a contentious issue, with proponents arguing that separate corporations would enable better governance and resource allocation for both cities. The move is expected to streamline municipal services and boost local infrastructure projects.
Chief Minister Shivakumar's endorsement is seen as a crucial political push, given the historical significance of the demand. The state government is now expected to expedite the legal and administrative processes required for the bifurcation.
