Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has made a significant announcement regarding the development of Dhudike village in Moga district, the birthplace of freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai. During his address at the 'Lala Lajpat Rai Janam Diwas Khed Mela', Mann declared that the village will be transformed into a full-fledged model village with comprehensive infrastructure upgrades.
Time-Bound Development Projects
The Chief Minister outlined specific development projects that will be implemented within a strict timeline. "Previous governments confined themselves to drawing up plans, while my government will ensure visible work on the ground within a year," Mann asserted. He pledged to return to Dhudike on Lala Lajpat Rai's next birth anniversary with all projects completed.
Infrastructure Enhancements
The model village initiative includes several key infrastructure components:
- Installation of new sewerage lines
- Rejuvenation of village ponds
- Development of modern playgrounds
- Implementation of all basic infrastructure facilities
Mann emphasized that all demands raised by the Dhudike Panchayat are being fulfilled immediately through these development projects aimed at enhancing living standards for villagers.
Revival of Traditional Sports
During the Mela celebrations, the Chief Minister participated in watching kabaddi and hockey matches alongside villagers. "I am a common man and joining my brothers and elders in watching this rural sports fest gives me immense satisfaction," Mann expressed.
Cultural Heritage Preservation
The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of reviving Punjab's indigenous sports, stating that traditional games represent more than just athletic competitions. "Traditional games like kabaddi, bullock cart racing and others are not just sports but an integral part of our rich culture and heritage," Mann explained.
He further elaborated that these games embody the spirit, strength and unity of Punjabis and have been passed down through generations. The state government has committed to ensuring these traditional games flourish once again, providing platforms for rural youth to showcase their talents.
Upcoming Rural Olympics
Mann revealed that the revival of bullock cart races after a 16-year hiatus will be a key attraction at the upcoming Kila Raipur Rural Olympics. This initiative forms part of the government's broader commitment to restoring Punjab's prominence in the sports arena through traditional games.
Health Scheme Expansion
In a separate development, the Chief Minister announced the expansion of the 'Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna' across Punjab. This health reform program now provides every family with up to Rs 10 lakh in cashless treatment, doubling the previous limit of Rs 5 lakh. Approximately 65 lakh families are expected to benefit from this enhanced healthcare coverage.
Capital City Concerns
Addressing a longstanding political issue, Mann expressed disappointment that Punjab remains deprived of its capital and high court even after more than 70 years of independence. "It was unfortunate that even after more than 70 years of Independence, Punjab has been deprived of its capital and the high court," the Chief Minister stated.
However, he assured that the state government would make strenuous efforts to reclaim Chandigarh as Punjab's rightful capital city, emphasizing this as a priority for his administration.
