Coimbatore Election Security: CISF Arrives, Over 2,000 Police Deployed
In preparation for the upcoming assembly election, Coimbatore has witnessed a significant boost in security measures with the arrival of paramilitary forces. Two companies of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) have reached the city, part of a broader allocation of eight companies from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) designated for Coimbatore district. These forces are tasked with area domination and confidence-building initiatives to ensure a smooth electoral process.
Deployment and Accommodation Details
The CISF personnel, numbering more than 140, have been accommodated in marriage halls located in the Singanallur and Kuniyamuthur areas. According to a police officer, additional personnel are expected to arrive in the coming days. These forces will be strategically deployed at sensitive polling stations and will conduct regular patrols to maintain law and order.
Polling Station Security Framework
Coimbatore city comprises 1,175 polling stations spread across 333 locations, while rural areas have 2,046 polling stations. Of these, 46 polling stations in the city and 107 in rural areas have been classified as vulnerable. A senior police officer emphasized that security will be intensified at these stations, with personnel deployment tailored to the specific vulnerability level of each location.
Election Cells and Public Complaints
To streamline election-related operations, an election cell has been established in the city. This cell includes one assistant commissioner of police, one inspector, two sub-inspectors, and 10 police personnel. The complaint number for public grievances will be announced shortly. Similarly, the rural police have formed their own election cell, and efforts are underway to allocate a dedicated number for handling public complaints.
Comprehensive Police Deployment
In addition to the paramilitary forces, the city police plan to deploy more than 2,000 personnel for election duty. This combined force aims to provide robust security coverage, ensuring that the electoral process is conducted peacefully and efficiently across all polling stations in Coimbatore.
