Chhattisgarh Unveils Rs 1.72 Lakh Crore Budget for 2026-27, Prioritizing Inclusive Development

Finance Minister OP Choudhary presented the annual budget of Rs 1.72 lakh crore for the financial year 2026-27 in the Chhattisgarh state assembly on Tuesday. The budget is strategically designed to foster inclusive growth, accelerate infrastructure development, and boost investment across the state.

Key Schemes and Allocations for Social Welfare

A highlight of the budget is the launch of the Rani Durgavati Scheme, under which girls will receive Rs 1.5 lakh upon turning 18 years old. This initiative aims to empower young women and support their future endeavors.

In the education sector, Rs 100 crore has been allocated for constructing 'Education Cities' in Abujhmad and Jagargunda within the Bastar region. Additionally, Rs 50 crore is set aside for opening new medical colleges in Kunkuri, Manendragarh, and Dantewada, enhancing healthcare access.

Infrastructure and Economic Development Focus

The budget includes significant provisions for infrastructure projects. A sum of Rs 2,024 crore is earmarked for constructing the Matnar and Deurgaon barrages on the Indravati river in Bastar, an area historically affected by Naxal activities. This project is expected to improve water resources and regional stability.

For broader infrastructure, Rs 9,450 crore is allocated to the Public Works Department and Rs 3,500 crore to the Water Resources Department. To stimulate economic growth, Rs 250 crore is provided to establish 23 new industrial parks, aimed at boosting investment and generating employment.

Promotion of Sports, Culture, and Digital Connectivity

To promote sports and culture, Rs 10 crore has been allocated for the Bastar and Surguja Olympics, encouraging athletic talent in these regions. Digital connectivity will be strengthened with Rs 5 crore approved for the Bastar Net project, enhancing internet access in remote areas.

Tourism development receives attention with Rs 5 crore allocated for Mainpat in Surguja, and plans to expand air services in Jagdalpur and Ambikapur, improving connectivity and boosting local tourism.

Budget Themes and Government Vision

This budget marks the third presentation by the Vishnu Deo Sai government. The first budget was based on the theme 'GYAN' (Gareeb, Yuva, Annadata, Nari), focusing on the poor, youth, farmers, and women. Last year's budget emphasized 'GATI' (Good Governance, Accelerating Infrastructure, Technology and Industrial Growth).

This year's budget is centred on SANKALP -- Samaveshi Vikas (Inclusive Development), Adhosanrachna (Infrastructure), Nivesh (Investment), Kushal Manav Sansadhan (Skilled Human Resources), Antyoday (Welfare of the Last Person), Livelihood, and Policy se Parinam tak (From Policy to Outcome). This comprehensive framework aims to accelerate Chhattisgarh's development journey, as highlighted by Minister Choudhary.

The budget reflects a holistic approach to addressing social, economic, and infrastructural needs, positioning Chhattisgarh for sustainable growth in the coming years.
