Tragic Motorcycle Accident Claims Life of Calangute Resident Near Mapusa
A devastating road accident has resulted in the untimely death of a young man from Calangute. Kevin Perera, aged 25, lost his life on Monday after his motorcycle collided with a roadside barrier and an electric pole in front of the Dhargalim panchayat office.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The tragic event unfolded as Perera, who worked as a staff member at Manohar International Airport in Mopa, was returning home from work to Mapusa. According to Pernem Police Inspector Sachin Lokare, the accident occurred when Perera attempted to overtake a car on the left side.
During this manoeuvre, his bike brushed against the car's side mirror, causing him to lose control. The two-wheeler then veered off the tarmac and struck a concrete pillar and an electric pole with tremendous force. The impact was so severe that the vehicle landed on top of him, inflicting critical injuries.
Emergency Response and Fatal Outcome
Local residents immediately called for an ambulance, and Perera was rushed to the district hospital in Mapusa. Despite prompt medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. The young man, originally from Mulund in Mumbai, had been residing in Baga-Calangute with his parents.
Police Investigation Underway
The Pernem police have conducted a panchnama (scene of crime inspection) and are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. Authorities are examining all factors to determine the exact cause and any contributing elements.
