Police confirmed the incident occurred in the Orsa Bangladara valley area. The bus was traveling under the jurisdiction of the Mahuadanr police station. Authorities stated the vehicle's brakes failed, leading directly to the overturn.
The bus carried approximately ninety passengers. They were journeying from Balrampur district in Chhattisgarh to attend a wedding ceremony in Mahuadanr, Latehar.
Casualty Figures and Immediate Response
Superintendent of Police Kumar Gaurav provided initial details. He said five individuals died at the accident site itself. Among these victims, four were women. Emergency services rushed all injured persons to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
An official later updated the death toll. One more person succumbed to injuries while receiving care at the Mahuadanr community health centre. This brought the total fatalities to six.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Vipin Kumar Dubey outlined the treatment locations. He reported sixty injured people received admission to the Mahuadanr community health centre. More than twenty others required transfer to RIMS Ranchi, a private hospital, for advanced care.

The driver described a frantic struggle to control the bus. He explained the primary brakes malfunctioned completely. He attempted to stop the vehicle using the handbrake. He also switched off the engine in a desperate effort. Despite these actions, he could not regain control, and the bus eventually overturned.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren took swift notice of the tragedy. He posted a message on social media platform X. In his post, he urgently directed the Latehar deputy commissioner. He instructed the official to ensure appropriate medical facilities were provided to all injured victims without delay.
