Bus Plunges into Canal in Rajarhat: Rescue Operation Underway
A private passenger bus met with a tragic accident on Friday morning when it lost control and plunged into the Mazar canal in Rajarhat, located near Kolkata. The incident occurred at Kharibari under the jurisdiction of Rajarhat police station, sending shockwaves through the local community.
The bus was traveling from Berachapa to Chakla Karunamayi in North 24 Parganas district when the accident happened around morning hours. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the vehicle suddenly veer off course before crashing through the side railings and falling into the water-filled canal.

Local residents were the first to respond to the emergency, with many jumping into the water to help passengers escape the partially submerged vehicle. Their quick thinking and bravery likely prevented more serious consequences during the critical initial moments after the accident.

Forty-six injured passengers were initially admitted to Deganga Hospital for medical treatment. After primary care, some of the less seriously injured were discharged, but nine individuals remained in critical condition and required transfer to RG Kar Hospital for specialized medical attention.
A police official confirmed, "The condition of nine people is serious, and they have been shifted to the RG Kar Hospital for better treatment facilities. We are monitoring their situation closely."
