Mahendragarh: A 28-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her brother-in-law following a dispute over money for alcohol in Haryana's Mahendragarh district, police said on Thursday.

Victim and Accused

The victim, Anjali, a native of Uttar Pradesh and mother of a two-year-old boy, was living with her husband Manoj in Chelawas village under the Kanina area. The accused, Amit (34), is the elder brother of her husband.

Incident Details

According to police, Amit was addicted to alcohol and frequently demanded money from his younger brother to fund his drinking habit, leading to recurring disputes within the family. On Wednesday night, he allegedly demanded money again. When Anjali objected and refused to let her husband hand over the cash, an argument broke out.

Investigators said the confrontation soon turned violent, with Amit allegedly picking up a wooden stick and repeatedly striking Anjali on the head. She sustained serious injuries and lost a significant amount of blood.

Medical Response and Investigation

Family members rushed her to the Civil Hospital in Kanina, where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and launched an investigation. A murder case was registered on the complaint of the victim's husband.

Kanina City SHO Deepender said the accused had been arrested. Following the postmortem examination, the body was handed over to the family for last rites.

Background

Residents told police that disputes within the family were frequent and often escalated into heated arguments. Both brothers are engaged in farming.
