BRS MLA Kaushik Reddy Faces Ethics Probe Over Assembly Gestures

BRS MLA Kaushik Reddy's Conduct Sparks Outrage in Telangana Assembly

The Telangana legislative assembly witnessed a major controversy on Sunday as BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy faced severe criticism for his alleged indecent gestures and comments directed at BRS rebel MLA Kadiyam Srihari. The incident has now been officially referred to the ethics committee for examination and potential disciplinary action following demands from multiple legislators for Reddy's suspension.

Alleged Gestures and Comments Draw Condemnation

Congress MLAs present in the assembly alleged that Kaushik Reddy made shooting gestures toward Station Ghanpur MLA Kadiyam Srihari and reportedly remarked that he would "stomp him." The legislators further accused Reddy of showing disrespect toward Dalit, Adivasi, and Girijan leaders, labeling him as an "assembly naxal" and a "rowdy."

IT Minister D Sridhar Babu, speaking on behalf of the government, strongly condemned Kaushik Reddy's behavior and body language toward the senior leader. "We condemn Kaushik's behaviour and body language towards senior leader Kadiyam Srihari," he stated before formally proposing that the matter be referred to the committee on ethics. Following this proposal, the speaker called for votes and approved the referral to the ethics committee.

MLAs Demand Immediate Suspension

Earlier in the day, several MLAs voiced their condemnation of first-time MLA Kaushik Reddy's conduct and demanded his immediate suspension from the assembly for the remainder of the term. Achampet MLA Chikkudu Vamshi Krishna expressed particular concern, stating: "The way he was gesturing at Kadiyam, it looks like he is an assembly naxal, not an MLA. Kaushik should be immediately suspended for the rest of the term."

Vamshi Krishna emphasized that all members, including SC MLAs like himself, are well-educated and deserve respect, urging that action be initiated against Reddy. Another MLA, KR Nagaraju, commented on Kaushik's attitude, saying: "He looks like a rowdy. A leader like Kadiyam deserves respect. This just shows his arrogance. How can he say he will kill and stomp?"

Broader Concerns About Respect and Safety

Nagaraju further criticized BRS MLAs, alleging that they do not appreciate the assembly and prefer to boycott it, adding: "All they like are drugs, farmhouses and pubs. In fact, it looks like KCR is not coming to the assembly just because you (Gaddam Prasad Kumar) are the speaker."

Several MLAs also highlighted broader issues of respect and safety within the assembly, pointing out that it is unfortunate that Dalit, Adivasi, and woman leaders do not receive adequate respect and safety even in the legislative chamber. This incident has raised significant questions about decorum and the treatment of marginalized community representatives in political spaces.

The ethics committee will now examine the allegations against Kaushik Reddy and determine appropriate actions, potentially including disciplinary measures that could impact his legislative tenure. The controversy underscores ongoing tensions within the Telangana assembly and highlights concerns about behavioral standards among elected representatives.
