BPF's Sewli Mohilary Wins Kokrajhar Seat by Massive Margin

NEW DELHI: Sewli Mohilary of the Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) secured a decisive victory in the Kokrajhar assembly seat, defeating Lawrence Islary of the United People's Party, Liberal (UPPL) by a margin of 39,633 votes. Mohilary garnered 74,816 votes, while Islary received 35,183 votes.

Third Place and Other Candidates

Manik Chandra Brahma of the Indian National Congress finished a distant third with 7,011 votes. Candidates from the Voters Party International and independents secured only marginal numbers.

Constituency Details

Kokrajhar is a Scheduled Tribe-reserved constituency created in 2023, part of the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seat in Assam’s Bodoland region. The result marks a strong performance for the BPF in one of the state’s newly formed constituencies.

Voter Turnout

The seat recorded a voter turnout of 83.15%, slightly higher than the 81.8% in 2021. Assam’s 2026 assembly elections saw a record overall turnout of 85.9%, with women voters at 86.5% surpassing male participation, reflecting strong electoral engagement across the state.
