BMC's Tax Crackdown Nets Rs 28 Lakh from Bhopal Hotel, Assets Seized in Wards
BMC Tax Drive: Rs 28 Lakh Recovered from Bhopal Hotel, Assets Attached

Bhopal Municipal Corporation's Aggressive Tax Drive Yields Major Recovery

In a significant enforcement action, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has recovered a substantial Rs 28 lakh in property tax arrears from a hotel located in Ward No 84. The establishment made an immediate payment of Rs 20 lakh on the spot to prevent attachment proceedings, with a commitment to settle the remaining Rs 8 lakh balance through the Lok Adalat, as confirmed by an official press release issued on Tuesday.

Citywide Campaign Targets Defaulters Across Multiple Wards

This recovery forms part of a broader, intensive citywide campaign launched by the BMC to tackle tax defaulters. In Ward No 8, property was formally attached due to outstanding arrears exceeding Rs 4.6 lakh. Simultaneously, in Ward No 80, assets were seized against multiple defaulters with dues ranging from Rs 1.3 lakh to nearly Rs 8 lakh, underscoring the widespread nature of the enforcement efforts.

Commissioner Sanskriti Jain has personally directed these operations, which followed a series of repeated notices and billing attempts to the defaulters. With continued non-compliance, the BMC escalated to lockout proceedings, demonstrating a firm stance against tax evasion.

Clear Message Sent: Dues Will Not Pile Up Unchecked

BMC officials have emphasized that this aggressive drive is designed to send a clear and unambiguous message to all property owners: tax dues will not be allowed to accumulate unchecked. The campaign is set to persist across Bhopal in the coming weeks, with a dual focus on recovering both property tax and water arrears, ensuring comprehensive fiscal compliance.

The enforcement actions highlight the BMC's renewed commitment to revenue collection and urban governance, aiming to bolster municipal funds for public services and infrastructure development. Residents and business owners are urged to settle their dues promptly to avoid similar stringent measures.
