BJP's Jan Ashirwad Yatra Sweeps Through Assam, CM Sarma Highlights Key Policies

Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) "Jan Ashirwad Yatra", spearheaded by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has entered its second day with a powerful entry into Assam's Morigaon district. This statewide outreach drive is strategically positioned ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, aiming to galvanize public support and solidify the party's electoral base across the region.

CM Sarma Positions Yatra as Decisive Political Mobilization

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has framed the yatra as a decisive political mobilisation, asserting that every vote for the BJP will strengthen the party's mandate to intensify its campaign against infiltrators and safeguard Assam's unique cultural and social identity. In his addresses, Sarma emphasized the government's unwavering commitment to reclaiming five lakh bighas of encroached land over the next five years, with land pattas to be granted exclusively to indigenous people. This move, he stated, sends a clear and unambiguous message regarding the protection of Assam's land and heritage.

Overwhelming Public Response and Traditional Welcomes

Expressing surprise at the massive turnout, CM Sarma noted, "Participation of thousands of people in the yatra has surprised me. It is little difficult for me to take part in such rallies for more than 12 hours without sitting for a moment at this age. But, the spirit of the people and their blessings encourage me every moment." Party spokesperson Pranjal Kalita detailed the enthusiastic reception on the first day, where people welcomed the CM with traditional rituals, including lighting earthen lamps and incense, and showering him with flower petals along the route.

Kalita highlighted that large gatherings assembled along highways to express gratitude for a series of policy measures undertaken by the state government. Key initiatives praised by the public include:

  • Land pattas for indigenous residents
  • Merit-based and transparent recruitment processes
  • Welfare schemes for youth empowerment
  • The Orunodoi initiative
  • The CM's Entrepreneurship Mission
  • Wage enhancement for tea garden workers

Yatra Resumes with Focus on Key Constituencies

The yatra resumed on Sunday from the Jagiroad assembly constituency, with CM Sarma and BJP state president Dilip Saikia actively participating. It is set to cover Morigaon, Raha, Nagaon, and Barhampur constituencies under the campaign theme "Assam's Security is BJP's Commitment." This thematic focus underscores the party's pledge to address security concerns and promote regional stability.

Symbolic Gestures and Cultural Initiatives

In addition to political messaging, the yatra also spotlighted the government's efforts to restore and redevelop the historic Batadrava Than, the birthplace of Srimanta Sankardev, a revered cultural and religious figure in Assam. Symbolically, the presence of bulldozers during segments of the procession in Jagiroad underscored the administration's stated resolve against illegal encroachment, reinforcing the commitment to land reclamation and law enforcement.

As the Jan Ashirwad Yatra continues to traverse Assam, it aims to consolidate support through direct public engagement, highlighting the BJP's achievements and future promises in the lead-up to the assembly elections.
