Assam Chief Minister Flags Off BJP's Jan Ashirwad Yatra from Sacred Gupteswar Temple
In a significant political move, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the state BJP's "Jan Ashirwad Yatra" on Saturday, commencing from the revered Gupteswar Devalaya in Dhekiajuli, located in northern Assam's Sonitpur district. The campaign, described as a journey to seek public blessings, aims to secure support for the party's bid for a third consecutive term in the upcoming assembly elections.
Historic Launch from Freedom Fighters' Hallowed Ground
The yatra was ceremoniously flagged off by CM Sarma alongside BJP state President Dilip Saikia, with cabinet minister and Dhekiajuli MLA Ashok Singhal also in attendance. Dhekiajuli holds profound historical significance, having been sanctified by the sacrifices of freedom fighters during the 1942 Quit India Movement. This symbolic location was deliberately chosen as the launchpad for the yatra, which aspires to connect with an ambitious target of one lakh people daily.
The initial phase of the program is scheduled to run for eight days, concluding on March 9. According to party statements, the yatra will serve as a platform to disseminate information about both Central and state government development and welfare initiatives directly to the public, while simultaneously gathering citizens' blessings in the pre-election period.
Focus on Development and Viksit Bharat Vision
Addressing the gathered crowd, Chief Minister Sarma emphasized his administration's unwavering commitment to holistic development. He outlined key priorities including infrastructure strengthening, industrial growth, job creation, and comprehensive welfare programs designed to benefit all sections of society. Sarma passionately urged the people of Assam to unite in realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visionary goals of a "Viksit Bharat" (Developed India) and a "Viksit Assam."
"Today we witnessed a sea of people," Sarma remarked, expressing his gratitude. "They are coming out on their own accord to bless the BJP. I acknowledge and offer my deep gratitude to the people of Assam." He added that the journey would continue energetically until midnight, underscoring the party's dedication.
Reflecting on the state's progress, Sarma stated, "The current development scenario in Assam demonstrates that over the last decade, we have made wholehearted efforts to serve the people."
Yatra Route and Massive Public Turnout
In an official statement, the BJP elaborated on the symbolic choice of Dhekiajuli, noting that the yatra embarks from "this revered soil, blessed by supreme sacrifice," with a resolute aim to shape Assam's future destiny. The planned route traverses from the Gupteswar Temple through Barsola, Tezpur, Naduar, and Rangapara, effectively covering a swath of Assam's rich civilisational and cultural landscape.
The party reported an overwhelmingly massive public turnout at the launch event, interpreting the crowds as clear evidence of growing public faith in the BJP's development-centric governance model and its policy framework.
Senior state BJP spokesperson Manas Sarania reinforced this sentiment in a statement, declaring, "The 'Jan Ashirwad Yatra' heralds the dawn of a new chapter. It carries the message of progress across the State while consolidating the blessings and confidence of the people."
The yatra represents a strategic grassroots outreach effort by the ruling party as it prepares for the electoral challenges ahead, banking on its record and future promises to win continued public mandate.
