BJP Intensifies Door-to-Door Campaign in West Bengal, Targets Panihati Constituency

Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar spearheaded the Bharatiya Janata Party's extensive door-to-door election campaign in West Bengal on Wednesday, commencing operations in the politically significant Panihati assembly constituency. This area gained national attention as the home of the victim in the tragic 2024 RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case, which has become a focal point in the BJP's electoral strategy.

Minister Highlights Public Sentiment and Demands Change

Speaking to reporters after engaging with residents across hundreds of households, Majumdar expressed confidence in the BJP's growing support. "The people of Bengal are openly welcoming the BJP, and a palpable desire for change is evident everywhere," he stated. "This particular assembly constituency witnessed the horrific rape and murder of one of its daughters. The community will not forgive the Trinamool Congress or the sitting MLA for their failures. A significant transformation is imminent in the upcoming elections."

Massive Outreach: Three Crore Households and Key Themes

Majumdar's campaign activities are part of the BJP's ambitious "Sampark Abhiyan" initiative, which aims to personally reach an astonishing three crore households across West Bengal. Each interaction includes distributing a letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, outlining the party's vision and commitments.

The campaign strategically emphasizes several critical issues:

  • Infiltration: Addressing concerns about illegal immigration and border security.
  • Unemployment: Highlighting job creation and economic opportunities as priority areas.

To execute this vast operation, the BJP has fully mobilized its organizational network, activating numerous Shakti Kendras (power centers) across the state to coordinate grassroots efforts.

Preparatory Groundwork and Sangh Parivar Mobilization

According to internal party sources, the BJP has laid substantial groundwork in recent months. Prior to January, the party conducted an impressive 8,500 street corner meetings statewide, setting the stage for a more intensive phase. Over the next month, plans include organizing approximately 60 large-scale public rallies to amplify their message.

Adding significant momentum, forty affiliated organizations of the Sangh Parivar have deployed activists onto the streets of Bengal to campaign vigorously. This mobilization follows RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's visit to the state last year, where he subtly indicated a strategic consolidation of Hindu voters, a move now visibly materializing on the ground.

Electoral Context and Strategic Objectives

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP secured nearly 39% of the popular vote in West Bengal, demonstrating substantial support. However, this translated into only 12 parliamentary seats, a decrease of six from their 2019 tally of 18 seats. Analysts noted that while the vote share was significant, the party's victory margins in many constituencies were narrower than expected.

Currently, Sangh Parivar affiliates are reportedly engaged in targeted efforts to bridge this gap between vote share and seat count. Their focused campaigning aims to convert broader public support into decisive electoral victories in the upcoming assembly polls, addressing specific local issues like the RG Kar Medical College case to galvanize voter sentiment against the incumbent Trinamool Congress government.
