In a bold declaration of confidence, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan has asserted that his party is set to secure a commanding victory in the upcoming Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) elections. Addressing a gathering of party workers on Sunday, Mahajan projected a win of over 100 seats in the civic body.
BJP's Decisive Campaign Launch in Nashik
The minister made these remarks at the Vijayi Sankalpa Melava, an event that formally launched the BJP's campaign for the crucial urban local body polls scheduled for January 15. Exuding optimism, Mahajan stated that the BJP is not only poised to dominate in Nashik but is also on track to capture power in 10 major municipal corporations across Maharashtra.
He specifically named Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Kalyan-Dombivli, Nagpur, and Ulhasnagar among the civic bodies where the BJP expects to triumph. "We will win all the 10 major civic bodies in the state," Mahajan confidently declared during his speech.
Sharp Critique of the MVA Alliance
Mahajan used the platform to launch a vigorous attack on the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition. He argued that the alliance partners have severely diminished in stature and public support. "Shiv Sena (UBT) has already weakened, while NCP (SP) and MNS have no existence left. Even the Congress is barely visible," he claimed.
He further predicted a complete rout for the MVA in the civic elections, stating, "The MVA will not be able to win even a single civic body in the state." This statement underscores the high-stakes nature of the upcoming polls, viewed as a key battleground ahead of future state elections.
Strategy and Defections Bolster BJP's Prospects
Defending the BJP's recent strategy of inducting leaders from rival parties for the NMC polls, Mahajan explained that the move was tactical. He pointed out that certain seats had consistently eluded the party's grasp in previous elections. "This time, we will win all such seats," he affirmed.
The BJP's confidence was visibly boosted on the same day by the entry of former Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) corporator Sujata Dere into the party fold. Dere joined the BJP in the presence of Minister Girish Mahajan and state BJP president Ravindra Chavan. Notably, she had initially filed her nomination from ward 12 with MNS forms but withdrew her candidacy before formally switching allegiance.
Chavan, who was also present at the campaign launch, urged the party cadre to dedicate themselves fully for the remaining 10 days leading up to the elections to ensure a decisive and overwhelming victory for the BJP in Nashik and beyond.
