BJP Leader Condemns Himachal Government Over AI Summit Controversy and Police Standoff

State BJP president Dr Rajeev Bindal launched a scathing attack on the Himachal Pradesh government on Thursday, accusing it of fostering anarchy by protecting individuals who allegedly tarnished India's image during the recent international AI Summit in Delhi. He asserted that this action represents a severe breach of governance and constitutional norms.

Allegations of Constitutional Assault and Police Confrontation

Dr Bindal described the recent events as "unprecedented and deeply disturbing," emphasizing that the state government's actions constitute a direct assault on the Constitution and the rule of law. He claimed that instead of facilitating due legal process, the Himachal Pradesh government instigated a confrontation between state police and Delhi police forces.

The controversy stems from a Delhi Police team arriving in Himachal Pradesh with court orders to arrest three Youth Congress members linked to the AI Summit case. According to Dr Bindal, the Himachal Police responded by filing an FIR against the Delhi Police officers on charges of abduction, leading to a tense standoff that he labeled as undermining federal principles.

Criticism of Law and Order Decline in Himachal Pradesh

Dr Bindal further alleged a significant deterioration in law and order over the past three years in Himachal Pradesh. He cited numerous incidents, including:

  • Violence and public disturbances across the state
  • Attacks on government officials and public servants
  • A rise in serious criminal activities

He accused the state government of showing indifference to these security issues while being "hyperactive" in shielding those accused of defaming the nation during the AI Summit. Dr Bindal noted that the matter is currently sub judice, and turning it into an inter-police conflict only exacerbates the situation.

Political Repercussions and Democratic Response

Concluding his remarks, Dr Bindal warned that "the people will respond to this misgovernance democratically," suggesting potential political consequences for the ruling administration. His statements highlight growing tensions between state and central authorities, with implications for federal cooperation and legal integrity in India.
