BJP Workers Stage Protest in Lucknow Over Alleged Remarks Against CM Yogi Adityanath's Mother
In a significant development in Lucknow, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers organized a protest on Sunday following allegations of objectionable remarks made against the mother of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The demonstration, led by BJP district president Ravi Kumar Mishra, targeted Bihar-based cleric Maulana Abdul Salim, with protesters burning his effigy and calling for strict legal measures.
Protest Details and Demands
According to party leaders, BJP workers initially gathered at the party office before proceeding in a procession to Veer Vinay Chowk. At the site, they raised slogans against the cleric and conducted a demonstration. During the protest, the effigy of Abdul Salim was set on fire, accompanied by strong condemnation of the alleged remarks.
Sadar MLA Palturam emphasized that the chief minister serves not only as the head of the state government but also as the Peethadheeshwar of the Gorakshapeeth. He described the alleged remarks against CM Yogi Adityanath's mother as highly condemnable, stating that the statement has deeply hurt the sentiments of people across Uttar Pradesh.
Tulsipur MLA Kailash Nath Shukla demanded stringent action against the accused and warned that the agitation would escalate if adequate legal steps were not taken against those responsible.
Legal Action and Police Response
In response to the incident, the Kotwali Nagar police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Maulana Abdul Salim based on a complaint filed by BJP district president Ravi Kumar Mishra. The complaint alleged that during a religious gathering, the cleric made objectionable remarks about the chief minister's mother and attempted to provoke people against laws related to cow slaughter.
Kotwali Nagar station house officer Manoj Singh confirmed that the FIR was registered under relevant sections following the complaint, and further investigation is currently underway.
Superintendent of Police for Balrampur, Vikash Kumar, provided additional details, stating that the cleric has been booked under BNS 352 for intentional insult and BNS 353(3) for statements conducing public mischief.
The protest underscores the political sensitivity surrounding the issue, with BJP workers mobilizing to defend the honor of the chief minister's family. The incident has sparked discussions on freedom of speech, religious discourse, and legal accountability in the state.
