BJP confident of forming govt in Punjab by 2027: Khattar

Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday expressed confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is steadily progressing towards forming a government in Punjab by 2027. Speaking to mediapersons during his visit to Amritsar, he highlighted the achievements of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government over the last 12 years.

BJP Strengthening Base in Punjab

Khattar said the BJP is strengthening its base across the state and is capable of contesting all 117 assembly seats independently. Referring to the party's recent performance in West Bengal, he said the BJP has the organisational strength and political momentum to expand its presence further. On the possibility of an alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal, he said the final decision would be taken by the party leadership.

Achievements of Modi Government

Detailing the achievements of the Modi government, Khattar said the last 12 years have witnessed a significant shift in the country's political culture and governance model, resulting in increased public trust in the leadership. He claimed that the Modi government has prioritised the welfare of the poor and helped millions of people rise above the poverty line.

He cited flagship initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, free ration distribution, and the expansion of essential services, including electricity and drinking water, as key accomplishments. The former chief minister of Haryana also highlighted rapid infrastructure development across the country, pointing to substantial improvements in road connectivity, railways, aviation services, and power generation.

Challenges in Punjab

Referring to the challenges faced by the people of Punjab, Khattar said that residents are grappling with several hardships and assured that if the BJP comes to power in the state, its top priority would be to accelerate development and address public grievances.

Interaction with Business Community

During his visit to Amritsar, Khattar also interacted with members of the business and trade community. On the issue of India-Pakistan trade, he said such decisions are taken in view of prevailing circumstances and national interests. He added that the matter could be reconsidered in the future if conditions become conducive.
