BJP Tamil Nadu President Condemns DMK Government's Performance
In a sharp critique of the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu, BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran on Tuesday highlighted significant governance failures, including unfulfilled promises, escalating crime rates, and widespread drug circulation. Speaking to reporters in Madurai before joining an AIADMK-led protest, Nagenthran asserted that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) faces no internal issues regarding seat-sharing arrangements.
Unfulfilled Promises and Political Ambitions
Nagenthran pointed out that only a handful of the '505 promises' made by the DMK during the last election have been realized. He accused the party of leveraging 'official power' to position Udayanidhi as the next chief minister, allegedly using financial incentives to sway public opinion. This, he argued, demonstrates a prioritization of political maneuvering over genuine public service.
Alarming Crime Statistics and Drug Epidemic
The BJP leader presented grim figures to underscore the deteriorating law and order situation under DMK rule. Over the past five years, Tamil Nadu has witnessed 1,977 murders, including 361 children, and 38 cases of sexual assault and murder of women. Additionally, Nagenthran highlighted a severe drug problem, with authorities seizing approximately 2 lakh kilograms of ganja, alongside high circulation of cocaine and methamphetamine, indicating a pervasive narcotics crisis.
Language Politics and Election Strategy
Nagenthran criticized the DMK for reviving the Hindi language issue as an election tactic, calling it a diversion from substantive governance. He emphasized the importance of promoting Tamil universally without undermining Hindi, accusing the DMK of exploiting linguistic sentiments for political gain rather than fostering cultural harmony.
Response to Actor Vijay and Allegations
The BJP president also addressed controversies involving actor and TVK leader Vijay, questioning his silence on Aadhav Arjuna's remarks about actor Rajinikanth and demanding an apology. Nagenthran firmly dismissed allegations that the BJP is threatening Vijay, labeling them as baseless and politically motivated.
Overall, Nagenthran's statements reflect a broader condemnation of the DMK's tenure, framing it as a period marked by broken commitments, public safety failures, and divisive politics, while reaffirming the NDA's cohesion ahead of upcoming elections.
