Opposition Stages Protest in Bihar Assembly Over Law and Order Concerns
The opposition in Bihar continued its vocal protest on the legislative assembly complex on Friday, launching a sharp attack on the state government regarding the perceived deterioration of law and order across the state. The demonstration highlighted growing tensions over public safety and governance.
Government's Firm Defense of Its Record
In response to the opposition's allegations, Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Samrat Choudhary offered a robust defense. He asserted that Bihar currently enjoys "good governance and the rule of law" under the present administration. Choudhary advised opposition members to raise their questions within the appropriate forum of the House rather than on the streets, emphasizing that the government is prepared to address all concerns comprehensively.
Commenting specifically on recent criminal incidents, Samrat Choudhary took a firm stance, declaring that anyone who commits a crime must go to jail. He also took a pointed dig at the opposition, claiming that criminals now fear the government and are consequently fleeing the state on a daily basis.
Opposition Focuses on Crimes Against Women
The opposition's critique zeroed in on the alarming rise in crimes against women. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi led the charge, demanding the immediate resignation of Home Minister Samrat Choudhary. She accused the government of being incapable of providing basic security to women in the state.
Rabri Devi specifically demanded urgent action in the tragic case of a girl student whose death remains shrouded in mystery. The student fell from the roof of a coaching center in Patna on Thursday, an incident that has sparked public outrage and calls for a thorough investigation.
Political Sparring Intensifies
The debate quickly escalated into a broader political confrontation. Senior Janata Dal (United) leader and Rural Works Department Minister Ashok Choudhary alleged that Rabri Devi's motivations were personal, suggesting she only desires his demise and wishes to see Samrat Choudhary distraught.
Responding to Rabri Devi's demand for resignation, Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) chief and Member of Parliament Upendra Kushwaha dismissed her statements. "She says whatever comes to her mind," Kushwaha remarked. He argued that in reality, RJD leaders are struggling to accept their electoral defeat. "The people of Bihar have given them such a setback, but they still cannot accept it. That is their issue," he concluded, framing the protest as sour grapes rather than genuine concern.
The assembly session thus transformed into a heated arena where allegations of governance failure clashed with assertions of administrative strength, reflecting deep political divisions in Bihar over the critical issue of public safety and the state's law and order machinery.
