Bihar Assembly Adopts Resolution for Express Trains Between Chhapra and Patna
In a significant development for railway connectivity in Bihar, the state assembly on Wednesday adopted a private member's Bill as a resolution, pushing for the introduction of a pair of express trains between Chhapra and Patna. This move, spearheaded by BJP MLA Chhoti Kumari, is set to gain momentum as it received immediate support from the state government.
MLA Chhoti Kumari Champions Rail Connectivity
Chhoti Kumari, who represents Chhapra after defeating Bhojpuri actor Khesari Lal Yadav in the last assembly elections, passionately urged the House to recommend the express train service. She emphasized that Chhapra, as the headquarters of the Saran division, would see substantial benefits from enhanced rail links. Additionally, residents of neighbouring districts such as Gopalganj and Siwan are expected to gain from the proposed service, improving travel and economic opportunities across the region.
Government Support and Forward Action
Transport Minister Shrawan Kumar expressed the government's full backing for the proposal, stating that there were no objections. He committed to forwarding the House's recommendation to the Centre and the railways for follow-up action. This assurance marks a crucial step toward turning the proposal into reality, as it aligns state and central efforts for infrastructure development.
Other Railway Proposals Adopted
The assembly also adopted two other private members' Bills as resolutions, highlighting a broader push for railway improvements in Bihar:
- New Railway Line Proposal: BJP MLA Maithili Thakur, representing Alinagar, sought a new railway line linking Lohana and Muktapur, with train operations to benefit nearby blocks. The transport minister supported forwarding this recommendation to the Centre.
- Train Halts at Hathua Junction: JD(U) MLA Ram Sewak Singh raised a demand for long-distance trains to halt at Hathua railway junction in Gopalganj district. The government assured that this recommendation would also be sent to the Centre and railways for consideration.
These resolutions underscore the assembly's proactive approach to addressing regional transportation needs, with potential impacts on connectivity and local economies. The focus on railway enhancements reflects ongoing efforts to boost infrastructure in Bihar, leveraging state-level advocacy to influence national policy decisions.
