Bhopal and Madhya Pradesh Experience Rainfall as Winter Retreats
Parts of Bhopal recorded rainfall on Tuesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting further wet weather across the region. The capital city and other areas in Madhya Pradesh are expected to experience showers under the influence of multiple weather systems as winter enters its retreating phase.
Rainfall Data Across the State
Many places in the state recorded showers on Tuesday, with notable rainfall measurements including:
- Guna: 22 mm
- Shivpuri: 17 mm
- Datia: 4 mm
- Gwalior: 4 mm

Temperature Trends and Weather Warnings
The overnight and day temperatures were recorded above normal on Tuesday. However, Met officials have predicted a dip in the mercury later this week. A warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning was issued for many parts of the state, including the capital, indicating a wet winter retreat in Madhya Pradesh.
Weather Systems Influencing the Region
The Met department explained that a trough now runs from the northeast Arabian Sea to north Punjab across Saurashtra and Kutch, as well as west Rajasthan, up to 1.5 km above mean sea level. Simultaneously, a subtropical westerly jet stream with core winds of up to 250 kmph, at 12.6 km above mean sea level, prevails over northeast India.
A fresh western disturbance is likely to affect northwest India from January 30 night, bringing additional wet weather to the region, forecasters added.
Detailed Forecast for Bhopal
The Met has forecast cloudy skies over Bhopal on Wednesday, with light rainfall expected in the evening hours. The day temperature is predicted to be around 27 degrees Celsius, while the night temperature will drop to approximately 12 degrees Celsius. The average wind speed is expected to be 16 kmph.
Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest weather alerts and take necessary precautions during thunderstorms and heavy rainfall periods.
