Corporators of the Berhampur Municipality Corporation (BeMC) have raised a pressing alarm over a severe shortage of financial resources and manpower, which is crippling developmental activities in the city. The elected representatives formally submitted their demands to the state authorities on Friday, seeking immediate intervention.
Memorandum Submitted to Governor
Led by BeMC Mayor Sanghamitra Dalei, a delegation of corporators presented a memorandum to Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati through the Ganjam Collector, Keerthi Vassan V, at Chhatrapur. The action highlights the growing frustration within the civic body over the inability to execute essential projects for the city's residents.
Critical Shortage of Funds and Staff
In their appeal, the corporators pointed out that the grants received from the state government are extremely meagre and insufficient to undertake any meaningful developmental work. Compounding the financial crisis is an acute manpower shortage within the municipality's offices.
Mayor Dalei explicitly stated that the civic body has requested government permission to appoint at least 100 people on an outsourcing basis to bridge this gap. However, this crucial proposal is still awaiting approval, leaving many projects in limbo.
Planned Escalation to State Leadership
Determined to resolve the impasse, the BeMC delegation has decided to take their plea to the highest levels of the state government. Mayor Dalei revealed that they plan to meet Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra very soon to discuss the issue directly.
The corporators have appealed to the Governor to consider their dire situation sympathetically and direct the state government to address their demands. The outcome of these high-level meetings will be critical for restarting development works in Berhampur.
