Assam BJP President Alleges Congress Conspiracy in AI Summit Protest
Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia made serious allegations on Saturday, asserting that the protest by Youth Congress members at the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi was a premeditated conspiracy. He claimed this plot was conceived at the residences of senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
Political Tensions Escalate in Assam
In response to the incident, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Assam Pradesh and the Asom Yuva Parishad, the youth wing of the AGP, organized a march towards the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters, Rajiv Bhavan. Their protest aimed to condemn what they described as a "shameful and anti-India act" by Congress at the Global AI Summit, arguing it tarnished the nation's image on an international platform.
Security Measures and Legal Actions
A significant deployment of security personnel was implemented to prevent the protesters from entering the Congress office. Despite these efforts, tensions flared, leading to an FIR being lodged at Bhangagarh Police Station. The complaint alleged an attack on members of the Pradesh Youth Congress and Congress leader Ratul Kalita during the protest. Kalita, who reported being assaulted, filed two separate FIRs at the same police station.
Congress officials countered these claims, accusing a faction of unruly BJYM workers of using the protest as a cover to target Congress supporters and vandalize banners and posters. This exchange of allegations has intensified the political rift in the region.
Saikia's Media Address and Broader Accusations
Addressing the media at the BJP's state headquarters, Dilip Saikia elaborated on his accusations. He stated that the protest at the AI Summit was "premeditated and not a spontaneous act," designed to embarrass India globally. Saikia highlighted that the summit involved delegates from 100 nations, including heads of state and ministers, along with top AI industry executives engaging in productive discussions.
He further alleged that under Rahul Gandhi's direction, Youth Congress members executed actions that "brought shame to India before the world" and undermined the aspirations of the country's youth. Saikia criticized Congress for opposing the creativity and progress of younger generations and for allegedly hindering India's advancements in science and technology.
Congress Response and Police Impartiality Questions
In a rebuttal, Assam PCC media department chairperson Bedabrat Bora raised concerns about police conduct during the protest. He questioned the impartiality of law enforcement, citing their failure to restrain what he described as hooligans attacking Rajiv Bhavan while allegedly acting against Congress workers instead. This statement adds another layer to the ongoing controversy, suggesting potential biases in the handling of the situation.
The incident has sparked a heated debate, with both parties trading accusations and calling for accountability. As investigations proceed, the political landscape in Assam remains charged, reflecting broader national tensions between the BJP and Congress.
