AP Government Sanctions Rs 7,358 Crore to Settle Employee Dues

In a significant move to address financial arrears, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has approved the release of Rs 7,358 crore to clear pending bills for government employees and retired staff. The decision was made during a review meeting with finance department officials in Vijayawada on Thursday, focusing on the status of dues inherited from the previous administration.

Prioritizing Payments Based on Fund Availability

Chief Minister Naidu directed officials to prioritize pending employee payments according to the availability of funds. He emphasized the need for a systematic approach to ensure timely disbursement and sought detailed updates on the implementation of his earlier instructions regarding the settlement of employee-related pending bills.

Breakdown of Payments and Progress

Finance officials provided a comprehensive update on the payments processed so far. They reported that Rs 1,848 crore has been cleared towards provident fund (PF) arrears, and group life insurance (GLI) claims worth Rs 76 crore have been processed, benefiting 4,793 individuals.

  • Rs 1,800 crore towards leave encashment dues of retired employees
  • Rs 223 crore towards additional surrendered leave bills of police personnel

Officials assured that the remaining payments will be completed within the next two days, ensuring all pending dues are addressed promptly.

Focus on Small Contractors and Suppliers

During the meeting, Chief Minister Naidu also reviewed pending payments to contractors and suppliers. Officials informed him that Rs 614 crore has been paid to small contractors who supplied materials to various government departments.

Naidu instructed officials to follow a clear payment priority, emphasizing that small contractors should be given preference while clearing pending bills for works executed and materials supplied. This directive aims to support local businesses and ensure timely compensation for their services.

Addressing Inherited Financial Liabilities

The review meeting highlighted the government's commitment to addressing financial liabilities carried over from the previous administration. By sanctioning this substantial amount, the state aims to alleviate the financial burden on employees and retirees while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

This move is expected to boost morale among government staff and retirees, providing them with much-needed financial relief. It also underscores the administration's focus on transparent and efficient governance, ensuring that pending dues are settled in a structured and timely manner.
