Andhra Revenue Minister Issues Stern Warning Over Land Dispute Cases

In a significant development in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, Revenue Minister Anagani Satya Prasad delivered a strong warning to officials involved in land dispute cases, emphasizing that stringent action will be taken against those found colluding or engaging in irregularities. The minister made these remarks while responding to queries during the Assembly session on Wednesday, highlighting the government's firm stance on transparency and accountability in revenue administration.

Alarming Surge in Pending Revenue Cases Revealed

Minister Satya Prasad disclosed a staggering figure of 32,970 revenue cases currently pending across the state, shedding light on the scale of the issue. He provided a detailed breakdown of how these cases have accumulated over the years, explaining that only four cases were pending until 2005. However, this number rose to 204 between 2006 and 2010, then increased sharply to 1,809 during the period from 2011 to 2015.

The situation escalated further, with pending cases surging to 17,291 between 2016 and 2020. From 2021 to 2025, an additional 12,434 cases were pending, and already in 2026, 1,228 new cases have been registered. This historical data underscores the growing challenge of land and revenue disputes in Andhra Pradesh, necessitating urgent intervention.

Government Initiatives to Streamline Revenue Administration

Satya Prasad outlined that corrective measures were initiated after the coalition government assumed office, aimed at streamlining revenue administration and reducing litigation. As a result of these efforts, the minister reported that newly registered cases have come down significantly, indicating progress in addressing the root causes of disputes.

To expedite the disposal of pending cases, the government has implemented several key strategies:

  • Appointment of Liaison Officers: Liaison officers have been appointed at the district level to facilitate better coordination and faster resolution of cases.
  • Constitution of Legal Cells: Legal cells have been established under district collectors to ensure efficient handling of court matters and legal proceedings.
  • Utilization of Technology: The department is actively using the Andhra Pradesh Online Litigation Case Management System portal to monitor and manage disputes, improving coordination between officials and government pleaders.

Zero Tolerance for Irregularities and Disciplinary Action

The minister stressed that irregularities in handling land disputes will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Officials found tampering with records or influencing cases will face strict disciplinary action, including potential legal consequences. Satya Prasad reaffirmed the government's commitment to a transparent, efficient, and time-bound resolution of revenue and land disputes, ensuring justice for all parties involved.

He added that action has already been initiated against certain officials, demonstrating the government's proactive approach in upholding integrity within the revenue department. This move is part of a broader effort to restore public trust and ensure that land disputes are resolved fairly and promptly, without undue delays or corruption.

The revelations in the Assembly highlight the critical need for continued vigilance and reform in revenue administration, with the government pledging to address the backlog of cases while preventing future escalations through robust monitoring and accountability mechanisms.
