Andhra Minister Alleges Rs 6,000 Crore Scam in YSRCP Housing Scheme

Revenue Minister Anagani Satyaprasad on Tuesday made explosive allegations of massive irregularities in the "Housing for All" scheme during the previous YSRCP regime, claiming misappropriation of nearly Rs 6,000–7,000 crore. Responding to queries in the Assembly, he stated that the government has launched a detailed probe and assured that no one involved in the scam would be spared.

Fresh Allotments and Application Numbers

The minister revealed that modalities are being finalized for fresh allotment of house-sites to the poor in a transparent manner. Authorities have received nearly 4 lakh applications for house-sites and another 8 lakh for Tidco houses. He reiterated the government's commitment to provide 2 cents of land in urban areas and 3 cents in rural areas to all eligible poor beneficiaries.

Sharp Attack on Previous Regime

Launching a sharp attack on the previous regime, the minister alleged that leaders in power at that time deliberately purchased lands from farmers at throwaway prices and later sold them to the government at inflated rates for distribution as house-sites. He further stated that several layouts were developed in areas unfit for habitation.

"There are places where no human being can construct a house and live with basic amenities. Yet such lands were acquired and distributed," he remarked.

Ineligible Beneficiaries and Financial Loss

Out of 22 lakh beneficiaries identified under the scheme, at least 5 lakh were found ineligible, he disclosed. The previous government spent nearly ₹10,200 crore on house-site distribution, of which around Rs 6,000 crore was allegedly siphoned off. The minister said bogus allotments will be cancelled.

Distress Among Beneficiaries

Highlighting the distress faced by beneficiaries, he noted that nearly 2 lakh people approached the government seeking cancellation of their allotted house-sites and requesting fresh allotments in habitable locations. He assured the House that a group of ministers is examining all aspects, including identification of genuine beneficiaries and suitability of lands.

Based on their recommendations, corrective measures will be taken to ensure justice to the poor and restore credibility to the housing programme.
