Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav launched a scathing attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party government on Saturday, raising a litany of issues from public harassment in administrative processes to alleged attacks on the Constitution. Speaking to reporters in Etawah, the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister positioned his party firmly against the BJP ahead of crucial political battles.
Criticism of SIR Process and BLO Harassment
Akhilesh Yadav strongly criticized the government's handling of the Special Investment Region (SIR) process. He claimed that the procedure was causing significant trouble not only for common citizens but also for the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) tasked with its implementation. "Despite the prevalence of Aadhaar cards, people are being forced to hunt for physical documents," Yadav stated. He emphasized that this problem could have been easily resolved through better technological integration, sparing both the public and officials unnecessary hardship.
Accusations of Undermining the Constitution
On the occasion of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar's death anniversary, Yadav leveled serious allegations against the BJP. He accused the party of attempting to weaken and alter the Indian Constitution. "The Constitution gives us respect, rights, and reservation. For the PDA (Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak), it is like Sanjeevani (a life-giving herb)," he asserted. Linking his comments to recent incidents in Madhya Pradesh and on the Supreme Court premises, Yadav claimed that the PDA community faces the most insults and suffering.
He further warned that voters in Etawah and across Uttar Pradesh would turn against the BJP in upcoming elections, alleging that the party had failed to fulfill any of its promises to the people.
Comments on Maha Kumbh and IndiGo Flight Crisis
The SP chief also commented on two other pressing issues. Regarding the preparations for Maha Kumbh 2025, he accused the government of showing no concern and failing to account for the number of lives lost during previous editions of the mega religious gathering.
Shifting focus to the recent IndiGo flight cancellation crisis, Yadav alleged that the government had empowered certain industrialists to such an extent that they were now "exerting pressure on the government itself." He issued a stark warning about the state of democracy, claiming that when media organizations question the government, central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) are used to create pressure. "This situation is dangerous for democracy," he concluded.
