Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Tuesday released a video alleging that miscreants backed by the Bharatiya Janata Party attacked a TMC party office in Katwa, West Bengal. According to Banerjee, the attack forced party worker Sandip Kumar Ghosh to jump from the third floor of the building.
Allegations of Political Violence
In a strongly worded statement on social media, Banerjee condemned what he described as politics of 'intimidation and terror'. He wrote, 'This is the jungle Raj that the BJP has unleashed in Bengal. In a shocking act of political violence, Sandip Kumar Ghosh (Karna) was brutally assaulted by BJP-backed miscreants and then forced to jump from the third floor... He is now battling for his life with a brain haemorrhage.'
Victim's Condition
Following the incident, Ghosh, a resident of Gangatikuri, sustained a head injury and a fractured leg. He was initially taken to Katwa Hospital and later transferred to Burdwan Medical College for advanced treatment. Former TMC MLA Rabindra Nath Chatterjee alleged that the attackers pushed Ghosh from the third floor, contradicting claims that he jumped voluntarily.
Police and BJP Response
Local police stated that no case has been registered in connection with the incident. Meanwhile, Katwa BJP MLA Krishna Ghosh denied the allegations leveled by the TMC. He claimed that an angry mob chased Ghosh, who jumped out of fear. The BJP leader emphasized that his party was not involved in the matter.
The incident has escalated political tensions in the region, with both parties trading accusations. Further investigations are awaited as the victim remains in critical condition.
