The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has officially announced Geetesh Naik as its candidate for the upcoming by-election to the Ponda assembly seat in Goa. AAP's national convener, Arvind Kejriwal, formally inducted Geetesh Naik into the party on Wednesday, marking a significant step in the party's expansion efforts in the coastal state. Geetesh Naik outlined his primary focus on healthcare improvements in Ponda, drawing parallels to AAP's initiatives in Punjab and Delhi. He highlighted critical gaps in local medical infrastructure, stating, "Ponda currently lacks a functional blood bank, and the ID hospital is operating without essential facilities. My goal is to address and resolve these pressing issues within the next two to three months, ensuring better healthcare access for residents."

AAP's decision to field a candidate in the Ponda bypoll has exposed deepening fault lines within opposition ranks in Goa. This development comes amid ongoing calls for a united opposition front against the ruling BJP, notably championed by AAP MLA Venzy Viegas.
However, the party's entry into the Ponda race has fueled political discourse suggesting that AAP might inadvertently split the non-BJP vote, potentially benefiting the incumbent party. Goa Forward Party (GFP) chief Vijai Sardesai voiced sharp criticism, questioning, "The party that was advocating for a united opposition has now announced a candidate against the primary opposition party. Where is the promised unity? This move completely shatters trust among opposition forces."

Geetesh Naik, who is not a registered voter in the Ponda constituency, defended his candidacy by emphasizing community support. He asserted, "The Bhandari community has collectively decided to rally behind a candidate from their own community.
