AAP Ramps Up Efforts Ahead of Ponda Assembly Bypoll in Goa
With the crucial Ponda assembly constituency bypoll set for April 9, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has significantly intensified its campaign activities to consolidate its voter base in the region. In a strategic move, the party inducted prominent local businessman Geetesh Naik into its ranks on Wednesday, during an event attended by national convener Arvind Kejriwal.
Key Induction of Geetesh Naik
Geetesh Naik, a respected figure from the Bahujan Samaj community, brings over 15 years of dedicated social work experience to AAP. Notably, he was previously associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), marking a significant shift in his political allegiance. Party insiders have suggested that Naik is likely to be fielded as AAP's candidate for the upcoming bypoll, although a final decision is still pending official confirmation.
Arvind Kejriwal's Confident Address
During the induction ceremony, Arvind Kejriwal emphasized that AAP is the only political entity genuinely working for the welfare of the people. He expressed strong confidence in the party's prospects, stating his belief that AAP would secure its third Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Ponda constituency, building on its existing representation in the assembly.
Recent Political Defections to AAP
This development follows another notable defection to AAP just a week earlier, when former South Goa Mahila Congress district president Mamata Maben joined the party. Maben cited deep dissatisfaction with the internal functioning of the Congress party and its alleged neglect of her views on issues pertinent to her Ponda constituency as primary reasons for her switch.
The consecutive inductions of high-profile local leaders underscore AAP's aggressive strategy to expand its influence in Goa ahead of the bypoll, positioning itself as a formidable contender in the political landscape.
