Minor Tremors Recorded in Godhra Region, Villagers Report Unusual Sounds
Residents of several villages near Godhra in the Vadodara district experienced minor tremors on Sunday morning, causing a brief moment of alarm. The seismic activity, which occurred at 10:34 am, was registered at an intensity of 2.7 on the Richter scale, according to data from the Institute of Seismological Research.
Villages Affected and Eyewitness Accounts
The tremors were felt in villages including Padhiyar, Velvad, Vinzol, Kakanpur, and surrounding areas. Many villagers reported feeling the ground shake unexpectedly, with some describing it as a surprising event given the lack of similar incidents in recent memory. In response, numerous residents came out of their homes to investigate the cause of the disturbance.
Sources indicated that some people also heard a sound resembling an explosion during the tremors, adding to the confusion and concern among the local population. This auditory effect, while unsettling, is not uncommon with low-magnitude seismic events and often contributes to the perception of a more significant occurrence.
No Damage Reported Due to Low Intensity
Fortunately, the tremors were of very low intensity, and as a result, they did not cause any damage to property or infrastructure in the area. The absence of structural harm has provided relief to the villagers, who were initially worried about potential impacts. Seismological experts often note that tremors below a magnitude of 3.0 are typically not felt strongly and rarely lead to destruction, which aligns with this incident.
The event has sparked discussions among residents about preparedness for such natural phenomena, even though the risk remains minimal in this region. Authorities have not issued any warnings, but the incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of seismic activity in Gujarat.
