19-Year-Old Detained for Hit-and-Run in Powai, Four Injured

Mumbai: The Powai police have detained a 19-year-old individual from Kharghar on charges of rash and negligent driving following a hit-and-run incident near Mahatma Phule Nagar on Sunday evening. According to police officials, the driver was speeding towards the Eastern Express Highway when the accident occurred.

Details of the Incident

The driver first collided with a motorcycle before striking four pedestrians: Manisha Sawant (45), Natha Sopan Pargaonkar (40), Ammachar Pande (40), and Dhanush Pande (13). After the collision, the driver fled the scene without providing any medical assistance to the victims. Sawant was subsequently admitted to Sion Hospital for treatment. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported so far.

Sequence of Events

Police investigations revealed that the accident happened when Sawant suddenly stepped in front of the car, leading to the vehicle hitting her. Following the incident, the driver approached the traffic police near Vikhroli Parksite and later surrendered at the Powai police station. An FIR has been registered in connection with the case.
