11.25 Lakh Gujarat Farmers Register for Relief Packages

In a significant response to the Gujarat government's relief initiatives, over 11.25 lakh farmers have registered for assistance packages designed to counter crop losses from unseasonal rainfall. The massive registration drive highlights the widespread impact of recent weather disturbances on the agricultural community.

Massive Registration for Relief Packages

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi revealed the impressive registration numbers following a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. The meeting focused on reviewing the implementation of two separate relief packages announced for farmers affected by heavy and unseasonal rainfall.

More than 10 lakh farmers have registered online to avail assistance under the Rs 10,000 crore relief package announced for those affected by unseasonal rains in October 2025. Additionally, approximately 1.25 lakh farmers from five districts have registered for the package addressing damages caused by heavy rainfall in September 2025.

The September rainfall relief package amounts to Rs 1,138 crore specifically targeted at five affected districts, demonstrating the government's focused approach to addressing regional agricultural challenges.

Groundnut Procurement Sees Unprecedented Response

The Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme for groundnut has witnessed extraordinary participation this year, with registration numbers soaring to record levels. According to Minister Sanghavi, over 9.31 lakh farmers have registered for groundnut sales – representing a remarkable two-and-a-half times increase compared to the previous year.

The government has taken a decisive step to purchase groundnut worth Rs 15,000 crore with a procurement limit of 25 quintals per farmer. This substantial procurement initiative aims to provide stable income support to the farming community.

Already, the government has purchased over 1.62 lakh metric tonnes of groundnut worth approximately Rs 1,177 crore from more than 70,000 farmers across Gujarat. The administration has initiated the process of making direct payments into farmers' bank accounts, ensuring transparency and efficiency in financial transactions.

Enhanced Power Supply for Rabi Season

Recognizing the critical needs of the ongoing rabi sowing season, the state government has announced significant enhancements to power supply for agricultural purposes. Starting Thursday, farmers in six districts will receive 10 hours of power supply instead of the usual eight hours.

In a more substantial boost, farmers in Garbada and Dahod taluka of Dahod district will benefit from 12 hours of power supply instead of eight hours during the Rabi season beginning November 20. This decision is expected to benefit approximately 9,758 farmers from 191 villages across these two talukas.

For cumin cultivation areas, the government has announced ten hours of electricity supply in agricultural feeders instead of eight hours from November 20. This enhancement will support around 49,000 farmers from approximately 1,090 villages.

The extended power supply will particularly benefit cumin farmers across multiple regions including Viramgam and Mandal in Ahmedabad, Bechraji in Mehsana, Sami, Harij, Shankheshwar, Radhanpur and Santalpur in Patan, Lakhtar and Dasada in Surendranagar, Suigam and Vav in Vav-Tharad, and Halvad taluka in Morbi district.

These comprehensive measures demonstrate the Gujarat government's multi-pronged approach to supporting farmers through direct financial assistance, procurement guarantees, and essential infrastructure support during critical agricultural periods.
