In a landmark event brimming with patriotic fervour, Mizoram witnessed the hoisting of its tallest national flag. Governor General Vijay Kumar Singh inaugurated the monumental 108-feet-high tricolour at the 34th Battalion Assam Rifles Headquarters in Zokhawsang, Aizawl.
A Historic Moment for Mizoram
Governor Gen Singh described the ceremony as a historic occasion for the state. He highlighted the special significance of unveiling the flag on Christmas Eve, noting it reflected the harmony, hope, and unity of the people. The governor praised the Assam Rifles and the Flag Foundation of India for choosing Zokhawsang as the site, stating the prominent flag would be visible from Aizawl and serve as a perpetual symbol of national pride.
He emphasised that the national flag unites citizens and reminds everyone of the Constitution's core values: unity, integrity, equality, duty, and respect for India's diversity. Gen Singh expressed hope that this tricolour would inspire Mizoram's youth to contribute to the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Leaders Highlight Unity and Patriotism
Mizoram's Home Minister, K Sapdanga, addressed the gathering, stating the flag represents unity, patriotism, selfless sacrifice, and hope for a brighter future. He added that the tricolour evokes memories of India's freedom struggle and instils deep love for the nation, with this monumental installation strengthening patriotic sentiments further.
Major General Ashim Kohli, CEO of the Flag Foundation of India, recalled the pivotal Supreme Court judgment in the Union of India vs Naveen Jindal case. This ruling upheld every citizen's right to fly the National Flag with dignity, a defining moment in strengthening the emotional bond with the tricolour. Kohli stated the Zokhawsang flag would be a lasting landmark of national pride and inspiration, especially for Mizoram's youth, while also reinforcing the harmonious relationship between the Assam Rifles and the local community.
A Symbol for the Future
Naveen Jindal, MP and Chairman of the Flag Foundation, delivered a brief message via video conference for the event. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Brigadier Pushpendar Sorayan, DIG of Headquarters 23 Sector Assam Rifles.
The installation of this 108-feet flag, now the tallest in Mizoram, stands not just as a physical structure but as a powerful emblem. It aims to foster national integration, recall constitutional values, and motivate the younger generation towards building a developed India.
