In a significant move towards sustainable urban development, the Varanasi Development Authority (VDA) has introduced a groundbreaking provision for establishing a green belt along the city's Ring Road and other major thoroughfares. VDA Vice-chairman Purna Bora detailed that the total width of the Ring Road within the city area is fixed at 60 metres. On both sides of this road, a substantial 20-metre-wide Green Belt will be developed. The Green Belt is expected to serve multiple critical purposes:

- Parks, racecourses, stadiums, picnic spots, and camping sites to promote public leisure.
- Educational and conservation-oriented sites like traffic parks, amusement parks, aquariums, zoos, museums, and bird wildlife sanctuaries.
