Two Major Fires in Gurgaon: Slum and Plastic Unit Gutted

Gurgaon witnessed two major fire incidents over the weekend, one in a slum near Sikandarpur and another at a plastic manufacturing unit in the Bajghera area. Around 100 huts and three warehouses were destroyed, but no casualties were reported.

First Fire in Sikandarpur Slum

The first fire broke out around 9:30 PM on Saturday in the slum near Sikandarpur. It started in one hut and quickly spread to neighboring huts due to exploding gas cylinders. More than a dozen fire tenders were deployed to control the blaze. A resident recounted, “The fire spread so quickly — we were all inside our house when we heard people shouting. As soon as we came out, two houses were already burning. We rushed the family to safety. There was no time to gather any household items.” The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and an investigation has been ordered.

Second Fire at Plastic Manufacturing Unit

The second fire broke out at a plastic manufacturing unit on Sunday around 5 AM. Workers initially tried to contain it with water and soil, but highly flammable plastic and scrap material caused the flames to intensify rapidly. They alerted the fire brigade and police, and at least six fire tenders reached the spot by 5:15 AM. The blaze spread to two adjoining timber warehouses before being brought under control nearly four hours later. Police evacuated nearby areas as a precaution. Thick black smoke and fumes affected residents of five to six housing societies. Workers were deployed to remove goods from the premises to minimize losses. The exact cause remains under investigation, though a short circuit or stray spark is suspected.
