The Tripura administration has initiated an investigation into substantial investments made in the state over the past five years, following directives from Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his recent visit. According to highly placed sources in the state administration, Shah emphasized the need for heightened scrutiny of financial transactions near the borders, as well as oversight of construction projects and property trade in the region.
The directive was issued at a meeting regarding border-related issues in Tripura, held at the BSF Tripura Frontier headquarters in Salbagan on Friday. An officer stated, 'Shah ordered a review of land records from the last five years to assess the situation and to determine if these investments are connected to foreign entities or illegal funding sources.'
Sources also revealed that Shah called for regular operations against drug and arms trafficking, emphasizing a strong approach towards those involved in the drug trade. He pointed out that maintaining financial discipline in border districts is also a duty of the states. Shah instructed that training be provided for collectors and GST officials, and requested the Central Board of Direct Taxes to conduct a survey on counterfeit currency.
Furthermore, the Union Home Minister directed that camps be established to educate residents near the border on how to combat narcotics and arms threats. He insisted that police and BSF personnel be present at these camps. The meeting highlighted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the government is firmly dedicated to upholding high security standards along international borders while fostering collaboration between central and state agencies for the comprehensive development and safety of border regions.
