Three Dead, One Injured in Khagaria Road Accident on NH-31
A devastating road accident on National Highway 31 in the Pasraha police station area of Khagaria district on Thursday resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including a schoolteacher, and left another person with serious injuries. The collision involved a car, a truck, and a motorcycle.
According to police reports, the accident occurred when a speeding truck, while attempting to overtake another vehicle, collided head-on with an oncoming car. The impact left the car severely mangled. Meanwhile, a motorcycle that was traveling behind the truck crashed into it after the rider applied sudden brakes to avoid the collision.
The deceased have been identified as Kumari Ruby (34), a teacher from ward number 3 in Khiradih Panchayat under Parbatta block; Nitish Kumar (38), the motorcycle rider from Sahu Parbatta village in Naugachhia, Bhagalpur; and Vikash Kumar (35), the car driver from Jhanjhada. Sonu Kumar, who was riding pillion on the motorcycle, sustained critical injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at Khagaria Sadar Hospital.
Two of the victims died at the scene, while the third succumbed to injuries during treatment. Ruby, who worked at Middle School Mandal Tola Chakarami in Narayanpur, regularly commuted from her in-laws' residence due to damage to the Vikramshila Setu bridge. She was traveling toward Bhagalpur at the time of the incident. Her husband, an inspector in the crime branch in Patna, was in Uttar Pradesh on investigation duty when the accident occurred. Ruby is survived by two sons and two daughters.
Local residents and police rushed the injured to the sub-divisional hospital in Gogri. Ruby died during treatment, while Vikash Kumar passed away on the way to Khagaria Sadar Hospital after being referred.
Pasraha Station House Officer (SHO) Navin Kumar and Additional SHO Rishu Kumar arrived at the scene and managed to restore traffic flow. Traffic Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Tirloki Nath Mishra stated that the accident was caused by rash overtaking. The police have sent the bodies for postmortem and initiated an investigation into the incident.
