The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has announced a 24-hour water supply shutdown in parts of the city served by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) starting Thursday afternoon. “For end consumers, the rationing will mean a 24-hour-long water cut every Thursday till further orders,” said an official.
Affected Areas
Supply from MIDC’s Jambhul Water Treatment Plant will remain suspended from 12 noon on Thursday for the next 24 hours, affecting Diva, Kalwa and parts of Mumbra ward committees, as well as Rupadevi Pada, Kisan Nagar No. 2 and Nehru Nagar in Wagle Estate and Kolshet Lower Village under the Majiwada-Manpada ward committees.
Water Supply Details
“The Thane corporation draws 135 million litres of water daily from the agency.” This follows the announcement of 14%-20% cuts in supply triggered by concerns of shortage in the coming months due to the impact of El Niño and the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD). Municipal officials said the decision was taken during a review meeting of the water resources department to implement the cuts, following which the same was conveyed to various local bodies, including TMC.
Post-Restoration Advisory
Meanwhile, the TMC has informed residents that the supply may remain at low pressure for the next two days after restoration and urged citizens to use water sparingly and cooperate with the administration during the period.
