Punjab Rescues 31 Child Beggars in Statewide Drive

Punjab authorities have rescued at least thirty-one child beggars over the past two days. The state launched a special drive across all districts to tackle this issue. Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Baljit Kaur announced the results on Sunday.

Immediate Actions Taken

Officials conducted raids at identified hotspots throughout Punjab. They targeted locations known for child begging activities. The rescue operation formed part of a broader statewide initiative.

Verification and Handover Process

After verifying documents, the Child Welfare Committee handed four children back to their parents on the spot. This immediate reunification occurred during the raids themselves.

Authorities temporarily shifted twenty-seven other children to child care homes. These facilities will host the children while further verification takes place. Appropriate action will follow as per established rules and procedures.

Project Jiwanjyot 2.0 Achievements

Minister Baljit Kaur highlighted the success of Project Jiwanjyot 2.0. The Punjab government has rescued a total of 1,023 children engaged in begging under this project.

Comprehensive Support Provided

The state provided benefits under the Sponsorship Scheme to thirty-eight of these children. Officials enrolled 349 children in schools to ensure their education continues.

Nine children received linkage with Anganwadi centres for early childhood care. Thirteen children accessed healthcare facilities through the Ayushman Bharat Scheme.

Children residing in child care homes now receive essential services. These include proper education, balanced nutrition, and comprehensive healthcare. The government aims to ensure a safe, dignified, and secure future for every rescued child.

The drive demonstrates Punjab's commitment to protecting vulnerable children. Authorities continue to monitor hotspots and plan further actions to eliminate child begging across the state.
