Threats to Rational Thinking
The minister expressed deep concern about recent disturbing trends. He pointed to the promotion of myths and pseudoscience across the nation. He also noted the dangerous spread of superstition and blind belief. Mahadevappa warned these trends threaten India's intellectual integrity. Persistent Social Evils
Mahadevappa reflected on the work of great social reformers. He mentioned Shahu Maharaj, Jyotiba Phule, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. These leaders strove hard to build a discrimination-free society. They fought tirelessly to end the practice of untouchability.
Yet the minister noted with sadness that inhumane practices continue today. He specifically cited incidents of social boycott that still occur. Mahadevappa stressed the urgent need for new legislation. He called for strong laws to curb crimes like honour killing. He also emphasized ending social boycott and similar atrocities.
