Manipur CM Inaugurates First NIA Special Court in Thoubal

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday inaugurated the state's first exclusive special court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) at the Thoubal district court complex in Khangabok. This marks a significant milestone in strengthening the judicial framework of the region.

Enhanced Judicial Infrastructure

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, CM Khemchand highlighted that the establishment of this dedicated NIA court will greatly enhance Manipur's judicial infrastructure. He emphasized that it would ensure timely access to justice for citizens, particularly those involved in cases under the NIA's purview.

“Individuals involved in NIA-related cases previously had to approach courts outside Manipur. With the establishment of the new court, legal proceedings related to NIA cases can now be conducted within the state, reducing both financial burden and inconvenience for litigants,” the Chief Minister stated, while also addressing the prevailing situation in the state.

Benefits for Litigants

The new court eliminates the need for residents to travel to other states for NIA case hearings. This not only cuts down on travel expenses and time but also ensures that cases are handled more efficiently. The move is expected to expedite the legal process and improve the overall experience for those seeking justice.

The inauguration was attended by senior officials, judicial officers, and local representatives. The court will handle cases related to terrorism, insurgency, and other serious offenses investigated by the NIA, which are critical given the security challenges in the region.

This development is part of broader efforts to strengthen the rule of law in Manipur, which has faced prolonged ethnic conflicts and insurgency. By bringing specialized judicial services closer to the people, the state government aims to foster trust in the legal system and promote peace.

The establishment of this court is expected to set a precedent for other states in the region, highlighting the importance of localized justice delivery in sensitive areas.
